History

Founded as TKR International in Welwyn Garden City (WGC) in 1982, we specialise in the Hot and Superplastic Forming (SPF) of Aerospace products from titanium sheet and the Hot Forming of Titanium extrusion and plate. Through investment, TKR increased its range of Hot & SPF presses which, coupled with the acquisition of Chemical milling and added assembly processes, established itself as a world leader in Titanium Forming and Fabrication. In 1996 TKR was amalgamated with the Kent Aerospace Casting Company to become Aeromet International. Aeromet continues to develop its processes and equipment to support the cutting edge of Aerospace Design.

The WGC facility is a major Titanium Forming facility for Hot and Superplastic Forming, Diffusion Bonding, Titanium Chemical Milling, Kitting and Assemblies. WGC is one of the world’s largest independent titanium forming facilities.

Product Range

Aeromet specialise in supplying Titanium Products, Kit assemblies and Fabrications for Engine Nacelles, Exhaust Nozzles, Tail Cones, Firewalls on Civil & Military aircraft.

The major Titanium material specifications formed are Ti 6Al 4V, Ti 6Al 4V Fine Grain, Beta 21S, Ti 62-42, SP 700, Ti CP1, Ti CP3, Ti 15-3-3-3, Ti 3Al 2.5V. Aluminium - typically QQA 250 and L166.

Scope

WGC facility is equipped with 9 Superplastic Forming Presses, 8 Hot Forming Presses and associated fabrication equipment i.e brake presses, Hufford Stretch Rig and Rubber Pad Press.

Aeromet WGC has two Chemical Milling lines with Aqueous Masking, Hydrogen Analysis equipment (LECO) and an additional Descale, Pickle and Wash tank line. The maximum capacity is 3m x 1.5m x 1.5m.

The Superplastic forming maximum capacities range from:150 Tons - 1000 x 1000 x 600 to 1500 Tons - 2300 x 2000 x 1200

The Hot forming capacities are from:
100 Tons - 500 x 500 x 600 to 300 Tons - 3500 x 1200 x 500

Tolerances: General tolerances for sheet metal forming are Contour +/- 0.5mm and Edge tolerance +/- 0.25mm.

The site is Quality approved to:

Independent Approvals have also been received from Aerospace companies including: Boeing, Goodrich, Airbus, Raytheon, Bombardier, Smiths Aerospace, BAE Systems, Alenia, Rolls Royce, Aermacchi, Lockheed Martin and GKN.
